This November, Virginians have a First-in-the-nation opportunity to fight back against Republican cuts to our healthcare.

The last time Virginia had a Democratic Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Attorney General, Medicaid (Cardinal Care) was EXPANDED to cover about 400,000 more Virginians.

It is critical that we elect Abigail Spanberger, Ghazala Hashmi, and Jay Jones statewide and a strong Democratic majority in the House of Delegates to fight for our access to healthcare at the state level.

How Will Republican cuts to our healthcare impact you?

The Republican H.R.1 - One Big Beautiful Bill Act will deliver sweeping cuts to our healthcare and healthcare systems and increased costs to patients in order to give billionaires MORE tax breaks.

While this bill is set to be implemented in 2026 and beyond, hospitals, nursing homes, and other medical service providers will have to factor in these changes now as they shrink their operations to adjust for the coming cuts AND increase costs to patients as a result of tariffs on medical supplies including medications. Whether you access healthcare through Medicaid, the ACA marketplace (individually or through your employer), or Medicare you are likely to experience significant changes to your access and cost of care. More info regarding these cuts here.

The Republican “Big Beautiful Bill” will have punishing impacts on rural communities, in particular. Across Virginia, this will impact hundreds of thousands of our neighbors. Augusta Health in the Shenandoah Valley has already announced the closure of three clinics as a result of this bill. The Republican nominee for Governor claims that a rainy day fund can cover the coming federal Medicaid cuts, experts do NOT agree.
